sprint distances: 750 yard swim-13 mile bike-5K run ($60)
If you're a competitive triathlete, this sprint distance course will be perfect for you! The swim is longer for a sprint, the beach is sandy and clean, and the water is clear and not very weedy. The bike course (3 loops) has a couple of hills, but some nice straightaways to break away from pack. The run is mostly flat, shaded and fast. Since this area lends itself well to being a good triathlon course, many triathletes come to Shady Oak Beach to train. The sprint distance is open to all, including first time triathletes.
Note: Anyone under 15 should seek permission from the Race Director prior to registering.
(minimum age is 12 on race day)
Are you an "elite" triathlete? Awesome! We'd love to have you be a part of our event...as a volunteer. We're serious! Consider volunteering at the Hopkins Royal Triathlon, and in return, we'll sponsor you in a race of your choice (up to $100) for the following season. Examples of volunteering that other "elites" have done include: emceeing, course set up, and serving food. It's our way of rewarding the top triathletes for giving back to the multi-sport community.
If you're an "elite" triathlete and interested in getting a free race entry into the event of your choice next season, contact the Hopkins Royal Triathlon's Race Director, Doobie Kurus ([email protected])
Clydesdales and Athenas
If you're "all about that bass", then you've come to the right race. At the Hopkins Royal Triathlon, Clydesdales and Athenas rule! Even the race director is a Clydesdale. On race day, you'll get to compete for the "unofficial" MN State Clydesdale & Athena Title. You'll also get a prime spot in the transition area. Not only that, but you'll get to be the first ones to start the race off, because you're the "elites" of this race. And our field is so deep, we split both the Clydesdales and Athenas into two age groups for awards.

NOTE:
- The Clydesdale or Athena option is only offered in the sprint distance.
- The "traditional" triathlon weight guidelines are 200+ lbs for the men and 150+ lbs for the women, but we don't care about weight. We won't have a scale out there, so use your own judgement in deciding. Just remember as Clydesdales and Athenas, we're supposed to be work horses and goddesses, not giraffes nor little fairies. In other words, if you're a 6' 5 male and weigh 201 lbs (probably not a Clydesdale), or a 5'1 female and weigh 149 lbs (possibly an Athena), make a logical decision when you register. Remember, it's totally voluntary, but there as an option. Please don't register as a Clydesdale or Athena just to start the race off early.
