What's new in 2018?
Well for starters, we have decided after our 1 year experiment, to go away from USAT sanctioning. So, no more one day ($15) membership fee.
Secondly, the participant's food (i.e. bananas, apples, energy bars, race rolls, etc) will be just off the finish line chute (behind fencing) and more accessible for the triathletes. Now, you can get to the food without waiting. The hot dogs, root beer and ice pops (for the spectators) will be located away from the triathlete's food.
Thirdly, the run course will be run in reverse (not backwards, but reverse). Participants will go out on Shady Oak Rd back to the ramp for the trail, and head west. The new run route will eventually bring people back across the foot bridge and finish in front of the picnic pavilion, where the fans will be waiting on the grassy hill. We're really excited about it!
Next, we're offering 2 options for the mini-sprint swim. Option #1: swim in water 4-5' deep parallel to shore for about 75 yards or Option #2: swim around the Big Dock in water over your head for about 100 yards.
Lastly, we are making some changes to help with those weeds from last year. We are changing the sprint swim course into a "point to point" course that takes you along the shore line through a channel and under the run course bridge before returning to shore. This will great for spectators too, as swimmers can be seen for most of the new course. We also have access to a lake weed removing tool that we are looking forward to using to help ensure a more enjoyable swim course!
